Probably not if

- Your intended course sits below Level 7 and isn't on the approved list — you may get a much shorter Post Study Work Visa, or none, until the November 2026 changes take effect.
- You need a fixed visa-processing date — INZ currently publishes a range (80% within about 8.5 weeks), not a guaranteed timeline.

Assuming the old 20-hour work cap still applies
The in-study work limit rose to 25 hours a week from 3 November 2025. Visas granted before that date don't update automatically — you need a variation of conditions or a new student visa to actually use the higher cap.
Picking a diploma course without checking Post Study Work Visa eligibility
Level 7+ qualifications get the full 3-year length; lower-level courses must be on the approved list, and some don't qualify at all until the 16 November 2026 changes take effect. Check this before you enrol, not after.
Budgeting living costs at the national average, not your actual city
Auckland and Wellington run closer to NZD 20,400–27,600 a year; Hamilton and Dunedin closer to NZD 16,800–24,000. Immigration New Zealand's NZD 20,000 minimum is a visa floor, not a realistic Auckland budget.
Treating the Green List as automatic
Registered nurses and several engineering roles get Tier 1 Straight to Residence, but only with an eligible job offer, the right registration and the right pay rate — the qualification alone doesn't guarantee it.
Quoting an old Skilled Migrant Category rule
From 24 August 2026, the NZ work experience needed for residence dropped from 3 years to 2 for most applicants, and bachelor's-degree points rose from 3 to 4. Advice or forum posts from before that date may already be out of date.
